I have the case of a woman whose papers were "mislaid" in the examiners office and who was compelled to pay an additional fee for new papers. I have had a sergeant of the United States Regular Army. recruiting service. call at my office and beg me to. do something to help them get attention when appearing in the examiners office with recruits who must diclare their intention before being enrolled in the. Army. Assuming for the moment that the naturalization examiner will take care: of all business within this district. what provision has been made by the secretary for the placing of cases on the calendar of the United States district court for final hearing? Does the secretary know that there are nearly 25.000 cases pending in. the United States court for the southern district of New York in addition. to about 10.000 cases on the -motion calendar? Weiser. deputy clerk of the. southern district court. plainly indicates that the throwing of all naturalization cases into that court would. bring. about chaos and that by so doing would work to. the. detriment of the alien. and would be.. in effect. a denial of the rights to citizenship as may. be inferred from Mr. Weisers statement that " to extend to aliens by statute the privilege of naturalization. and. at the same time wlthhold. the means of accomplishing it. is surely- a stultifying attitude "?
