I assume. to Bronx County and to Richmond. Those county clerks assistants are employed by the county clerks. It was believed by the department that the work could be done more economically if the department employed its own assistants. with the result that about a year ago the Department of Labor established a naturalization office in those counties and employed its own assistants. installing them in these offices. It is the duty of those assistants to help the applicant for citizenship to fill out his papers. to give him advice. to look him over in a preliminary way to see if he is lined up all right. as it were. in the making of his application to the courts for citizenship. Both the Federal and State courts act in these matters.
