Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680191715

If It were possible to have enough Federal courts in New York to do this work. so that the courts would not be clogged and the work could be done by Federal officials. I would join the Senator from Ohio in saying that was desirable. That can not be done with only nine Federal courts in New York City. Without the aid of the State courts this congestion must continue. They are naturalizing now only about 200 a week in the Federal courts. That would be 10.000 a year and there are 100.000 waiting. It would take 10 years at the present rate to take care of the persons ready to apply for citizenship.
