Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680146052

Mr. Speaker. of course. every Member of this House who wants to restrict Immigration and wants to go as far as he can toward enforcing the law ought to vote for these amendments because they lessen the bad effect of the bad resolution which passed the House yesterday. It improves it in particulars that were very necessary. Nobody knows how ninny thousands it would have admitted. but they were many. It was wide open. as my colleague. the gentleman from Callfornia has told you. We did not have the time to present it to you yesterday. but it included an unknown and great number. and that illustrates. my colleagues. the extreme folly of dealing with important questions like this in the hasty manner in which we dealt with this yesterday.
