Mr. Chairman. I intended to introduce an amendment providing for the immigration inspectors the same consideration we give customs inspectors for overtime work to be paid by the steamship companies. I just conferred with the chairman ofl the committee and he stated he would take that up In conference when the bill goes to conference. I want to say a word right here. gentlemen. for the employees of tie Immigration Service. Mlany of them. a greater part of them. have been in the service for 15 or 20 years nnd more. I served at Ellis Island with them some 15 years ago. and most of those men are still in that service. overworked and underpaid. and they pay an interpreter at Ellis Island a great deal less than they do in New York. and in the State courts.
