Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680072163

Mr. President. some days ago I took occasion to state in the Senate that it is the desire of this side of the Chamber that we shall proceed expeditiously to the consideration of important legislative measures. and mentioned a number which. in my opinion. challenge action by this body. At that time only one important bill had been reported to the Senate. the immigration bill now under consideration. I said then. in substance. that there is no disposition on the part of Democratic Senators unduly to prolong investigations which have been ordered by this .body or to extend them to unimportant or collateral issues. Our desire is to do the work under the resolutions of investigation. honestly. promptly. and thoroughly.
