Session #67 · 1921–23

Speech #670402869

There is a measure which passed the Senate some weeks ago. and which has been amended by a committee of the body at the other end of the Capitol in such a way as to endanger its enactment. That measure passed the Senate of the United States without a single vote in opposition. On February 6 Senate bill 4092. providing for the admission into the United States of certain refugees from near eastern countries. after being discussed briefly by the Senate. was passed without a dissenting vote. The senior Senator from Massachusetts . the leader of the majority. and. I believe. the senior Senator from Alabau . the leader of the minority. and a number of other Senators. realizing the emergent character of the bill. cooperated to secure Its speedy disposition by the Senate. with the very gratifying result that the bill passed the Senate unanimously.
