Session #67 · 1921–23

Speech #670341221

If the country understood it. the House would not dare to refuse to adopt this amendment. by which it is sought to add $300.000 to the amount named In the bill. and that is not a large addition and only brings it up to the figures for the present year. It is for the enforcement of a law that the country is deeply interested in. a law that Is necessary for the protection of those things that we regard as important in American life. I sincerely hope that this amendment will be adopted. If the Members of this House understood the conditions under which the Bureau of Immigration is laboring. they would not hesitate to make this addition to this appropriation and make it at least what it has been heretofore.
