I introduce a joint resolution. which I ask to be read at length and referred to the Committee on Immigration. The joint resolution (S. J. -Res. 252) to permit the admissim of certain refugees from Thrace and Asia Minor was read the first time by its title and the second time at length and referred to the Committee on Immigration. as follows: Whereas the recent war between Greece and Turkey has resulted In the expulsion from Asia Minor and Thrace of more than a million Armenians. Greeks. and Syrians. Whereas these refugees can not obtain proper food. shelter. or protection in the places to which they have been forced to flee. and devastation. starvation. and persecution await them If they attempt to return to their former homes. and Whereas numerous relatives and friends in the United States have offered homes. protection. and employment for many of these refugees If they can be admitted into this country: Therefore be it Resolved. etc.. That section 2 of the act entitled "An act to limit the immigration of aliens into the United States." approved May 19. 1921. as amended. Is amended by adding thereto the following new subdivision : "(e) Refugees from Thrace or Asia Minor may be admitted. If otherwise admissible. notwithstanding the limitation upon the number of aliens admissible In the same month or fiscal year."
