Session #67 · 1921–23

Speech #670005118

Desirable as it is to go as far as we can in the interest of humanity. we must draw the line somewhere. Now. gentlemen. it would be ine if we could throw open our hospitality to the world. but if we did that we would shortly have no country to which anybody would desire to come. We have got to keep what we have for ourselves and restrict that immigration that wishes to conie to our borders. We must do this in justice to the rest of the world. as well as to ourselves. We must not cut out all the restrictions of immigration by any such amendment as this. and I sincerely trust that it will be defeated.
