Speech #660247292

Suppose MAY. 17. they conme from South Africa. suppose they want to come for legitimate educational purposes. they must knock at the door of their masters and receive the approval ofa passport from Great Britain. and then when they get that they must be vis6d by some one representing the United States. The Pilgrim Fathers could not have landed under this law. I say that you are going back a century. you are going a long. long way back to say that our fathers were wrong when they said this was to be an asylum of safety for political refugees wherever they came from. Do not close the door by the passage of this bill. do not say that no Irishman shall leave Ireland nutil lie gets permission from the King of Great Britain.
