I offer the following resolution. and. ask that it be read! and referred to the Committee on Immigrationm The resolution (S. Res. 339) was read. as follows: Whereas a large number of aliens are within the United States.. in. violation of. the immigration laws. and. have been permitted to remain in the Uhited States because of the indifference of the Departmeft of Laborwith regard to- the issuance of an execution of warrants for the deportation of such aliens . and Whereas. after persistent delays and through the efforts of the Department of Justice over 6.000 warrants have been issued. 3.300 of which have been executed by the taking into custody of aliens subject to deportation . and Whereas it is claimed that the Department of Labor is not proceeding with proper expedition in such- cases. but.. on the contrary.. is dismissing a large number of such warrants and is threatening. to further dismiss more of such warrants: Now. therefore. be. it Resolved. That the Committee on Immigration is authorized and directed to investigate the administration and enforcement of the immigration lavs. including the administration. of the alien Immigration station. Ellis Island. New York Harbor. under Frederic C. Howe. formerly in charge of- such station.. and the attitude and policy of the Department of Labor with respect to those provisions. of the immtgration law which authorize the deportation of aliens unlawfully within the United States. and report to. the Senate Its findings in the premises.
