Session #66 · 1919–21

Speech #660158022

I have read the views of this gentleman. who has made a study of the question. and I simply wish to say that I believe that if you will let this -thing alone. leave it to the States themselves. the legislature of every State in the Union is alive to the problem and that they will meet it. New Jersey is very differently situated from many other States in the Union. especially many of the Western States. It absorbs large numbers of the immigrants coming to the country. We have a great collection of racial groups in our various cities in New Jersey. but I desire to say that the record we have shown in the war and the record of their support of the Government in the war is one of which our State is very proud. The State itself has appropriated large sums of money.
