All of these are not " foreigners " the illiterates number in their ranks a surprising number of American born who have grown to manhood absolutely unable to distinguish their letters. to whom a Liberty loan poster makes its appeal through the picture and not through the printed matter. whose knowledge of the world today is confined to that gained by word of month. All of these. both native and foreign born. must be educated. The war taught us what danger there is in having alien colonies in our midst as well as the necessity for educating our own American born.
