Session #65 · 1917–19

Speech #650002678

We are already in a state of war with the Imperial Government of Germany. I am unwilling. therefore. that my vote should be construed as comfort to the enemy that the entire Republic will face when the sun shall rise in the morning. After the adoption of this resolution by the House there will be but one sentiment from sea to sea in the mind of every citizen. whether native or foreign born. within the confines of the Republic. and that will be the prosecution of the war to a zuccessful conclusion. Therefore. much as I. deplore war. I shall record my vote in support of the resolution.
