Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640251626

There were one or two matters of legislation pending while I was chairman of that committee which brought a little extra business. but as soon as those matters were disposed of. by reason of the fact that I was chairman of the committee. I did not have much more work tban I had ordinarily been in the habit of doing. Many of the other committees are in the same situation. but when a Senator. like the Senator from South Carolina. chairman of the Committee on Immigration. points out the work of his committee and the Senator from Georgia . the chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor. points out the work of his committee. and when they indicate that they tliink the work is going to develop still further in the future. I have no objection myself to givingin fact. I want to givewhatever compensation is adequate and ought to be given.
