In line with what the Senator has said I desire to say that in one locality in the State of Washington it was ascertained a short time ago that an alien had come into the country a little over two years ago who had a very advanced case of leprosy. It was desired that this leper should be deported. the State not having. of course. made any provision for taking care of such cases. The department recognized the situation. This alien had come from a country in which the conditions are such that he can not be deported now. So we have this leper on our hands. with no way of taking care of him. The people are considerably worked up. just as is the case as shown by the letter from which the Senator from Louisiana has quoted.
