Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640184381

Perhaps I ought not to have said that. because some of my Republican friends may stay against their will. as a sort of forced complimnont. and I would now myself like to stay after having said this. as a compliment. only I have an engagement that will nece!.sarlly take me away. Mr. President. the Democratic Party is in the majorlty here. and it must assume responsibility. The )emocratic Party is not going to agree to the motion of the Senator. and he knows it. to take up the immigration bill at this time and displace the District appropriation bill. What. then. doe. he make the motion for? Evidently he thinks he is making some sort of politics to be used out in Washington. or that somebody else can use somewhere else.
