Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640183399

President. I am glad the Senator has given the notice that he has. but I hope he will not. without considerable thought. commit himself to the proposition of the Senator from Idaho [Mr. BORAHJ to attach the immigration bill to the childlabor bill. I feel an intense interest in both of those bills and hope they may pass. but it seems to me it would be very injurious to the final success of the child4abor bill to have the immigration bill attached to that bll as an amendment. There Is no connection between the two subjects whatever. Moreover. the immigration bill has once been vetoed by the President. -and the probability is that it would again .be vetoed. notwithstanding -the childlabor bill 3might be attached to It.
