I think it can be said of him that he never shrunk from a duty or turned lightly from a task. He was always proud of having served his country in the great rebellion that preserved its Union. During his services in this House in the Fiftyfourth Congress he voted for the bankruptey act. He also voted for the immigration bill containing a literacy test. He also voted for the recognition of Cuban belligerency on the 2d of March. 1896. He served as a Republican member upon the Committee on Levees and Improvements of the Mississippi River and on the Committee on the District of Columbia.
