I suspect that any attempt upon the part of Japan to invade the Philippine Islands would be. very vigorously objected to by Great Britain. because today the feeling in Australia against Japanese settlement is quite as in tense as it is upon the Pacific coast. The Australian. people do not want Japanese. immigration any more than the people of the Pacific coast desire it. With that feeling upon the part of that great English colony. I should imagine that it would be the desire of Great Britain to keep the Philippine Islands in the condition they now are. where. to some degree. they constitute a buffer between Japan and the English possessions.
