Since then a number of women. literally hundreds of them. born in California. raised. educated. married. and now rearing families there. have discovered that they have been set apart fiom their sisters in the State and deprived of the benefit of the amendment adopted in California. It is not a question. as has been perhaps facetiously suggested. of reserving to certain women who have married Chinamen or Japanese their citizenship. As a matter of fact. that does not enter into the matter at all. because under the laws of CaliforniP it Is a felony for a Caucasian to marry a person of Mongolian or Negro blood. But there are in California persons who have married persons with Mongolian or Negro blood in their veins. and they are there because they married such persons in other States where there is no such inhibition and moved to California and live there under the rights gained in the other States. This amendment as now froposed is presented for the purpose of relieving American women. The most of them are natives of California. as I stated.
