The lunacy commission of the State of New York presented fiaures that were very alarmIng as to the number of mental defectives who were passed by the immigration officials and who are now being cared for at the expense of the State of New York. The State of New York is spending several million dollars a year taking care of alien insane. and since additional employees were desired to detect these mental defectives the committee provided that the men selected should have the peculiar training to enable them to do so
