Mr. Chairman. in order that this amendment may be understood I desire to read the proviso which it is proposed to strike out. I read: Provided further. That the provisions of this law applicable to contract labor shall not be held to exclude professional actors. artists. lecturers. singers. ministers of any religious denomination. professors for colleges or seminaries. persons belonging to any recognized learned profession. or persons empioyed strictly as personal or domestic servants. Now. Mr. Chairman. in view of the fact that a moment ago the committee refused to make an exception of the unfortunate women who can not read. and in view of the fact that the committee has refused to make exceptions of skilled labor that we might use in this country.
