Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630132264

We have lived up the heritage of our children. We have raced through our public lands at breakneck speed. When we hear the statement that the West is full of arable public landsand I admit there are some lands in the public domainin Nevada. for instance. and other States of that characterthat are tillable. the acreage good for farming is not so much as the figures indicate. Further. it is apparent to every man who stops to think that. with our modern machinery methods and costs. these very immigrants .who are coming in such numbers can not get to the land.
