Session #62 · 1911–13

Speech #620283193

I desire to ask the gentleman from Massachusetts whether or not he is of the opinion that these high fees which are now paid by the applicant for citizenship should be remitted in these cases. At the present time every applicant is compelled to pay a fee of $5. I am of the opinion that after a man has served his country for five years in the Army or the Navy and is desirous to become naturalized it is unfair for us to iilpose this high fee upon him. I believe we can easily remit tie fees of such applicantsien who have served their new adopted country faithfully for tilree or five years and have been honorably discharged.
