I had not intended to engage i this line of discussion. Interruptions by gentlemen have forced the digression. We have had pending on the calendar of this House for months immigration bills reported by the Democratic Immigration Committee of this House. I have already. on a former day. shown you by the utterances of our distinguished Speaker and of the distinguished floor leader that they stood for legislation restricting undesirable immigration. We have a Rules Committee. for whose members I have the highest regard. and what I read now is in no way to be taken as a reflection upon them. A resolution offered by myself and by the gentleman from Alabama . chairman of the committee. was referred to the Rules Committee two months ago. The chairman of the Committee on Rules addressed a letter to the gentleman from Alabamna . chairman of the Immigration Committee. stating that in December they would bring out a special rule for the consideration of this immigration bill.
