But a man who is 60 or 65 years of age. who has passed the meridian of life. may have $500 in his pocket. but he has no object in coming here. no employment that he intends to take up. and that mau is much more liable to become a public charge than the young man who is facing a job and has a smaller amount of money. That perhaps is not a very clear illustration. but I think the Senator will get the idea I have in mind. It is not the amount of money he possesses so much as it is youthfulness. an abundance of health. and the prospect that he will enter into work. I only wanted to say that by way of explanation as to the way the present law is applied at the immigrant stations.
