Session #60 · 1907–09

Speech #600071598

Mr. Chairman. in conclusion I want to say that I take a very deep interest in the successful operation of the naturalization law. It is a very salutary law and must be upheld. I felt very gratified to have the honor to present that bill to the House and to have charge of it on the floor. I do not suppose any gentleman on the floor has a deeper interest in the success of the measure than I. and in saying that I realize the great interest many Members have in it. I do not want to see the law discredited by having an unnecessary numher of highpriced officers employed to enforce its provisions. which will make it necessary every year when the appropriation bill comes before the House to enter into a discussion of the bill. and perhaps to disparage it.
