In my judgment the American workingman in the coming campaign is going to demand of this Administration and of the Republican party an account of its stewardship. He is going to demand to be told who it is that has betrayed him. He is going to ask how it is that. with a flood of litigation threatening him on one hand and a flood of immigration overpowering him on the other. the weapons on which he relies to fight this unequal battle have been stricken from his hands. that the shield of his organization which is interposed to protect him from these evils has been torn away. and he will. perhaps. become at last aware of the fact that a great party. which has used him as a cloak behind which to hide the plunder of the people. has stabbed him in the back to prevent him from claiming his share of that which he produced. :
