Session #60 · 1907–09

Speech #600005582

Mr. Chairman. as a member of the Immigration Committee. who assisted in reporting this bill. I want to urge the passage of it. I want to call the attention of the gentleman from Colorado to the fact. since my unfortunate experience in relation to the resolution to which he refers. although many resolutions have come. as he says. to the Committee on Immigration. we have reported none of them. But this was a case where every member of the committee present was satisfied that the Secretary of Commerce and Labor ought at least to have the right to look into it. If he sees fit after lie has looked into it. because that is all the bill does. then he ought to have the power to let the woman in.
