President. that is not singular or peculiar to the State of Massachusetts. That is a general sentiment throughout the country. There is i general sentiment in opposition to the abuse of the importation of immigrants. There is a strong sentiment to that effect in my own State. which I of course most profoundly respect and which I do not wish to violate. I repeat there is in my State. as well as in all other States. a just opposition to the introduction of immigrants whose presence ill our country is not desirable. and the great advantage in the plan which we may call hereafter. I presume. the South Carolina plan is that which results in the introduction of those who are desirable. But I wish to say.
