Speech #590162026

President. I was trying to emphasige the importance of this matter to us. and I want to appeal to Senators not to deny us the slight opportunity that we now have for the enjoyment of that which has brought such blessings upon other portions of the country. I I have no doubt that the great States of which I have spoken would in time have been developed and peopled by our own peopleeven if they had had none of the assistance from these millions of immigrants. but it would have taken a long time to do it. Many of the very best people now in all that section are immigrants. and their descendants. one of whom sits among us as a Senator. and a very worthy one. whom we all admire and of whom we are all proudthe Senator from Minnesota .
