Session #59 · 1905–07

Speech #590089255

Mr. Chairman. the gentleman says the only alternative to the provision I have moved to strike out would be to confer exclusive jurisdiction in matters of naturalization upon the Federal courts. I submit that that is not the only remedy. that there is a remedy much more at hand. and that is simply to adopt the pending amendment and strike out the obnoxious language. Now. Mr. Chairman. the gentleman says he might have provided in this bill) or Congress might proide. that the Federal courts exclusively should have jurisdiction. There is no doubt about that proposition. and if it be a wise thing to do. why. then. go ahead and do it.
