Session #58 · 1903–05

Speech #580087299

Mr. President. since the bill has been amended I do not myself see any particular necessity for it. We already have a law. as I understand. for the naturalization of single women. and I do not know why persons who have become citizens of a foreign country by marriage should be placed under conditions different from single women who come over here to be naturalized. But if it be necessary to have a bill of this character as now amended. it seems to me as though the bill should go further. as suggested by the Senator from Idaho . It has been the policy of this Government to allow no one to become a citizen of the United States without renouncing any title of nobility.
