Session #57 · 1901–03

Speech #570128753

I will state to the Senator from South Carolina that for two months the Committee on Immigration had this bill before them. We had hearings. and gave it most careful consideration. and. in my opinion. with the amendments adopted it is a great improvement over the present law. There is no disagreement. the committee is unanimous. and if we can not vote on the bill this evening the Senator ought to agree to the fixing of some time tomorrow for taking a vote on the bill. so that it may be passed and go back to the House and become a law. It is an important matter.
