Session #57 · 1901–03

Speech #570106503

Mr. President. on yesterday I gave notice that after the conclusion of the routine morning business today I would move to proceed to the consideration of the immigration bill. Since then I have had some conversation with the junior Senator from Pennsylvania . who also gave notice yesterday that he would move to take up the omnibus statehood bill at this time. I do not wish to unnecessarily antagonize the Senators motion. I understand it will be agreeable to my honorable friend if I move to take up the immigration bill in the morning hour tomorrow. I therefore give notice that after the routine morning business tomorrow I shall move to proceed with the consideration of the bill to regulate the immigration of aliens into the United States. and I trust that we will be able to dispose of it. The bill has been considered by the Senate. all the amendments have been agreed to. I believe. save one. and if we give to it our earnest attention tomorrow I think it can be disposed of.
