There will be no North. no South. no East. no West. but one united country. On this subject there will be no party divisions. but only patriotic desire to serve the country of our life and love. Every man beneath the flag. whether native born or naturalized. will. with genuine pleasure. contribute of his substance and his strength that the honor of the nation may be vindicated. And if war shall come. the North Star State. which I have the honor in part to represent. whose great war governor. Alexander Ramsey. was in 1861 the very first to tender President Lincoln a regiment for the nations defense. will again be found in the forefront in the hour of danger. and the sons will emulate the glorious achievements of their sires at Gettysburg and Chickamauga.
