Let me say further that. whilst years ago labor was in demand in the mining regions and in the mills in the manufacturing communities. and whilst at that time the laborer could in a calendar month make from thirty to thirtyfive days work. the condition of things is so changed that now in our mines and in our mills the laborer is fortunate if he can make from twelve to fifteen days work in the calendar month. That is the condition of things in this country today. with the labor question pressing not only upon State legislatures. but upon Congress. And a proposition comes from the Committee on Immigration which we think will aid very largely in the solution of this questionthe solving of the problem that we are called upon to meet.
