Speaker. today. I join many of my colleagues in the House and Senate who are participating in this years Congressional Prayer and Fast Vigil for Soviet Jewry. I am participating in this vigil to bring attention to the terrible plight of nearly 500.000 Soviet Jews who have been denied the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union. As you may know. today marks the 14th anniversary of the infamous Leningrad trials of 1970. During these trials. 11 Soviet dissidents were unjustly tried and jailed in a case that riveted international attention on the cause of human rights in the U.S.S.R.
