When the fruit is ready to be picked. the farmers must have workers on hand to do the job. Experience has shown that while domestic workers apply for jobs as pickers. few keep them. A couple of years ago during the height of the recession. many Oregonians found themselves without jobs. One farmer from Forest Grove. OR. related a story to a local newspaper which characterizes the situation in the Northwest during harvest time.
