I do not knowthat that is so. I only say that that is the rumor. that Is the report. I submit to the Senate. however. that it does not take very much to make one believe that in the quick passage of this bill through the House of Representatives there was something more than a desire to protect American labor against the incursions of Asiatic labor. If I were to look over the whole House and select a man who would most fitly represent the American people who toil. I should hardly have thought of selecting the man who came hot haste with that bill and who succeeded in passing it through the House as very few men would have been able to do. and he succeeded only because he is a high priest in the Democratic church.
