One judge sat in court and issued such certificates at the rate of one in seven and onehalf secondsand he kept his recordgood until he had issued 65.000 fraudulent certificates all in the interest of Tammany Hall. whose corrupt and faithful servant he was. The thugs and heelers. outcasts and criminals. employed and paid by Tammany. thronged the polling places and crowded out and intimidated and drove from the polls the honest voters and stuffed the ballot boxes with fraudulent votes until in one ward there was counted and returned as cast more votes for -Tammany and its candidates than there were men. women. and children in the ward.
