I offer a concurrent resolution. and ask for its immediate consideration. The concurrent resolution was read. as follows: Resolved by the Senate (the t1ouse of Representatives concurring). That the Senate Committee on Immigration and the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. be. and hereby are. authorized jointly to investigate the workings of the various laws of the United States relative to immigration from foreign countries. and the importation of contract laborers to the United States. and the expenditures made in connection therewith. and especially the recent admission of immigrants infected with typhus fever into the port of New York. the investigation to be conducted at such times and places as said committees may deem proper. and the committees are hereby authorized jointly. as full committees or through subcommittees thereof. to send for and examine persons. books. and papers. and to administer oaths to witnesses. The Senate. by unanimous consent. proceeded to consider the concurrent resolution.
