Owrs has struck the very keynote of the situation. Being a stonecutter myself. I am perfectly familiar with the facts as stated by the gentleman. and while I would protect ahealthy and honest immigration coming to this country as much as any gentleman on thefloor. I think we can not be too careful. that we can not be too guarded inourefforts to keep out objectionable classes. We know that for the past few years. a class of immigrants has been permitted to land that has wrought incalculable injuryto our American working men and women. Asastonecutter I know that time and again hundreds and thousands of men of this class have come over from Europe lured by advertisements. which is one of the plans that the bosses of this country adopt to overcome the American mechanics. and drive them and their families even to a condition of starvation.
