The Senator from Florida contends that these lands ought notto be restored to market. and in that connection the Senator from Oregon put to the Senator a question as to the public land in his own State which he did not answer. No Senator has a right in justice to insist that this vast body of land shall remain withdrawn from the operation of our land laws who is not willing that the public lands in his own State should be likewise withdrawn. It might be for the interest of Florida and some other States that this great empire should be withdrawn from market and that the tide of immigration should no longer go westward but should be stopped by that barrier and turned southward.
