Session #51 · 1889–91

Speech #510038591

Mr. Speaker. I desire to make a statement before the question is put asking unanimous consent. as a member of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. The two committees of the House and Senate visited New York. and since their return. after an inspection of this island and looking into the question of the removalof the landing station for immigrants. have come to a vote on the question of adopting Ellis Island. The majority of the committee voted in favor of that proposition. I voted against it. for t easons that I desire to give the House at the proper time.
