Session #51 · 1889–91

Speech #510028589

I do not think the Caucasian race can mix with any other race on earth. This is our country. left us as a heritage from our fathers. It is our duty to protect it against this foreign invasion. The people I represent are men and women who are rearing their families to worship God and love our institutions. It is for them I make this appeal. Stand by the Pacific coast on this question. Give them a bill that will forever close our Golden Gate against all classes of Chinese immigration. including Chinese merchants. and receive the heartfelt thanks of a grateful people.
