Session #49 · 1885–87

Speech #490074254

If we take up and consider that bill as it ought to be considered in a deliberative assembly like this I take it for granted we shall have the opportunity during the consideration of the measure to vote on the proposition I have indicated. Now. Mr. Chairman. I have had the means within the last few weeks of learning a good deal about Alaska Territory. and my information is that immigration is pouring into the Territory all the time. that the Government has valuable property and vast interests to be protected there. I hope the House will adopt the amendment offered by the gentleman from Missouri and let these salaries stay just where the law fixes them.
