I till attention to this letter because it answers fully and completely the charge so often reiterated upon this floor that this protective tariff. was to be placed upon the American people in order to protect American operatives against the pauper laborers of Europe. and at each recurring canvass the candidates and emissaries of the Republican party are through every flctory in the land saying to the workmen. "Vote the Democratic ticket and vote for starvation to yourselves and to your ltmilics. vote the Democratic ticket and you will be put upon a basis vith the pauper labor of Europe."
